School breakfast club grants available
Today I am writing to headteachers across Blackpool South to inform them about the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Grants Programme which is now open to applications from schools in Blackpool.
I’m encouraging all schools to apply for these £1,000 grants aimed to help improve or extend existing breakfast provision in schools.
Blackpool Council has been providing all Blackpool primary school children with a free breakfasts since 2013. The impact of the scheme on the health, wellbeing and educational engagement of pupils has been evaluated by a team of developmental psychologists, health psychologists, nutritionists and statisticians from Northumbria University.
They found that children who attended breakfast consumed significantly more healthy items for breakfast than non-attendees and the universal element of the scheme prevents stigma. Free breakfasts in school also have the potential to reduce inequalities in the nutritional quality of children’s diets. Children feel happier and more alert throughout the day after accessing a free breakfast and there are potential benefits for punctuality and classroom performance.
The Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Grants will allow exiting breakfast club provisions to use funding as they see fit, in the way which has the greatest impact for the children at the club. Over the years Kellogg’s has provided training, food, crockery, cutlery, and games to schools to enhance their breakfast clubs.
I encourage all schools in Blackpool to apply by visiting: Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Grants Programme - Forever Manchester.
