Armed forces week in Blackpool
I was honoured to celebrate Armed Forces Week in Blackpool this week. As your Labour Candidate and recently elected MP for Blackpool South, I am proud to support our courageous servicemen and women. This week we came together to recognise their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation's security. A week of events across Blackpool allowed us to demonstrate our gratitude and appreciation for them.
My grandfather, Dougie Webb, served in World War II, fighting fascism in Europe, which is one of the reasons why this week holds a special place in my heart.
I have been a long-time supporter of the Royal British Legion throughout my life, attending military functions and parades, and running the London Marathon to fundraise for them two years ago.
Bob is a Royal Marines Veteran from Blackpool and a good friend. His family has a long and proud military history. This week he shared his support for me and on Sunday he performed his bugle at the morning service and celebrations at the cenotaph on Queen’s Prom. I was there to honour him and the rest of our military heroes and to lay a wreath.
