What What I achieved in 24 days as MP

As parliament is dissolved ahead of the general election, I reflect on what I did in my first days in office.

On the 2nd of May I was given a sweeping mandate to stand up and fight for Blackpool South when all 12 electoral wards voted for me to be your MP.

59 per cent of voters in Blackpool South put their faith in me – that’s the biggest share of the vote Labour has ever achieved in Blackpool South and the 3rd - biggest Tory-Labour swing since the Second World War in Blackpool South

In just 24 days in office I hit the ground running. I worked on more than 250 constituents’ cases, helping local people with everything from reports of anti-social behaviour to fly tipping and housing issues.

I worked on more than 250 constituents’ cases, helping local people with everything from reports of anti-social behaviour to fly tipping and housing issues.

I advocated for you in Parliament by raising 4 questions: on the influx of unlicensed taxis in the town, the future of Blackpool Rock, access to NHS dentists and knife crime.

I had 11 meetings with businesses, workers and business representatives where I set about helping them with the challenges they face.

I visited 8 community groups and charities to hear about the fantastic work they do to support Blackpool’s most vulnerable residents and find out how I can support them as their MP.

I officially represented Blackpool South at 4 events, ensuring our town’s voice was heard by influential people.

I held 2 street surgeries and 1 advice surgery on Waterloo Road, honouring my commitment to be an open and accessible MP.

I had 3 meetings with Blackpool Council where we discussed some of the big problems facing Blackpool residents and how we can work together to solve them.

I held 1 public Q&A at Hampton Road Social Club where everyone in the neighbourhood was invited to come and meet me and tell me what I can do for them as their MP.

And on the last day of Parliament I delivered my maiden speech where I talked about the town I love, the brilliant people who call it home, and everything I intend to do for Blackpool South.

I hit the ground running but this is just the start. I’m asking you to vote for me again on the 4th of July so I can continue to work hard for you and fight for the future Blackpool deserves.
