Surgeries in the community

At my recent help and advice surgery at South Shore Pitstop Cafe, I met with members of my constituency to listen to their concerns and discuss their feelings about our local area.

One individual raised their concerns about empty and derelict shops and buildings on Bond Street and Waterloo Road. These were once thriving local and tourist hotspots which underpinned our local economy all year round. I went on to raise this issue in Parliament and received a positive response from the Deputy PM Angela Rayner.

Labour has a plan to support our local high streets that includes giving communities a right to buy community assets to revamp high streets and end the blight of empty premises.

So far to kickstart economic growth, Labour has:

  • Announced plans to restore housing targets to build 1.5 million homes

  • Created a National Wealth Fund to make every part of Britain better off

  • Lifted the onshore wind ban to make Britain a clean energy superpower

  • Set out major devolution plans to drive growth across Britain

  • Taken control of major infrastructure projects to stop them being tied up in red tape

I will continue to work closely with local businesses, residents, and community groups to ensure Blackpool South’s high streets thrive again. We need investment and regeneration, to protect our cherished community spaces, and to build a better Blackpool.

My next surgery in the community will be a Chat With Chris event in Claremont on 19th September. Sign up here to attend.
