Awards for learning disabled photographers

I was honoured to hand out some fun awards to the New Langdale photographers at Blackpool’s Centre for Independent Living.

The New Langdale Photographers, a group with learning disabilities, has been exploring the work of John Charles Robinson, who worked as borough architect for the town from 1920 to 1944.

Robinson was responsible for at least 30 civic buildings in Blackpool, including libraries, schools, health and leisure facilities and transport infrastructure. It was fantastic to see the buildings that have formed the backdrop to our lives in Blackpool through the lens of this diverse group.

It was wonderful to meet Sam, Dawn, Isla and the rest of the photography group as well as the practitioners that have supported them through this project and the staff at the CIL. The centre is open to anyone with a disability, their friends and family, and there is so much to get involved with.
