Blackpool’s biggest ever jobs fair is coming

On 27th February 2025, alongside Fylde Coast Jobcentres, I am hosting Blackpool’s biggest ever jobs fair, bringing together our town’s best employers under one roof alongside members of the public seeking work and new opportunities.

One in four people in Blackpool claim out of work benefits and access to decent jobs is a barrier to many people lifting themselves out of poverty. The Labour government is committed to ensuring that work is genuinely rewarding and that individuals and families can thrive through fair employment practices.

Since taking office in July we have raised the National Minimum Wage to reflect the rise in the cost of living and to ensure that workers receive a fair wage for their labour. This change is part of our broader strategy to support low-income workers and to tackle income inequality across the country. We are enforcing stricter regulations on zero-hour contracts, guaranteeing fair working conditions across various sectors, while investing in skills and training, supporting families and childcare and enhancing social security systems.

This is a government that is dedicated to ensuring that work pays in a fairer and more inclusive economy.

A jobs fair was one of my campaign promises and since my election as MP for Blackpool South I have been building relationships with employers and other partners to ensure it will bring together the best opportunities for people to get back into work or develop their careers.

In September I brought Minister for Employment, and fellow North West MP, Alison McGovern to Blackpool to meet with local Jobcentre staff and job seekers to learn about the specific challenges we face in Blackpool – where work is often poorly paid and insecure. The minister has leant my jobs fair her full support and will be visiting on the day to launch the event.

This huge event will be held in the state of the art Winter Gardens Conference Centre on 27th February from 9.30am-4.30pm. The first part of the day will be open to those currently claiming out of work benefits, before opening up to the general public in the afternoon. There will be employers from a range of industries with work opportunities for all skill levels.

Job hunters and employers looking to take part in the event can register their interest here.
