Blackpool School Pupils invited to join The Great Lancashire Debate
In the coming days I will be writing to primary and secondary schools in Blackpool to encourage them to take part in The Great Lancashire Debate 2024.
The Great Lancashire Debate is Lancashire County Council's public speaking competition, to get young people involved in democracy and debating. The council is seeking the schools in Lancashire with the best public speakers. They will form debate teams of 2-6 pupils from year 5 in primary schools and year 9 in secondary schools. The competition will culminate with grand finals during UK Parliament Week, held at County Hall in Preston.
Entry is free and open to any primary or secondary school within the postcode areas of Lancashire County Council, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, and Blackpool Council.
This competition has my full support. It would be great to see Blackpool’s schools taking part, succeeding, and sharing their ideas for the future of Lancashire.
The council's website for the competition, which includes information about how to enter, can be found here: www.lancashire.gov.uk/the-great-lancashire-debate
